Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already laid out a clear plan for Axel Tuanzebe to get into the first-team at Manchester United.

It comes amid the news that the centre-back has returned to first-team training.

And he could not have done so at a better time, with United facing an inquest into their shoddy defending following a 6-1 loss to Tottenham.

Question marks had grown over Victor Lindelof that saw him dropped for Eric Bailly on Sunday.

But the Ivorian was erratic, while Harry Maguire could be accused of being at fault for three goals.

Fans had begged for a centre-back going into the final day of the transfer window.

United were embarrassed by Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday

A left-back was signed instead, in the form of Alex Telles, as well as experienced striker Edinson Cavani.

But the timely return of Tuanzebe to training could provide Solskjaer with a solution to his backline puzzle.

Last year, the former England Under-21 international impressed during his pre-season.

Manchester United are looking to plot their path back to the top. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already brought in Donny van de Beek but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

“He has got a future at United, yes, of course he has,” the United boss said at the time. “Axel is going to be the future of this club.”

However, what was earmarked as a breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford became a nightmare year.

After featuring 10 times, an injury suffered at Christmas time which saw his season come to an end.

Tuanzebe could be back to face Newcastle in two weeks

But after 10 months out, the Telegraph report that the defender has returned to first-team training.

And he could even make an appearance when United next kick-off in two weeks time.

The Red Devils face Newcastle next after the international break at St. James’ Park.

It comes during a time where Solskjaer is facing unprecedented scrutiny, with reports indicating that United chiefs are sounding Mauricio Pochettino out as a potential replacement should results go further south.

As for the current defensive options at the Norweigan’s disposal, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones remain at the club after failing to land moves away in the transfer window.

The duo are just two of several players the Red Devils could not offload, while another youth prospect in Teden Mengi has been touted for stardom.
